SHERPUR: Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalitabari Police Station in Sherpur and two sub-inspectors of the police station were sued over the death of a youth after police detained him.
Nine other people were also made accused in the case filed by the victim's brother on Thursday (January 11).Nintya Nanda Sarker Subrata filed the case with the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-2 accusing the OC and others for responsible of death of his brother.
Taking cognizance, judge of the court Humayun Kabir directed Mymensingh Police Bureau of Investigation (PIB) to investigate the matter and submit a report on February 28. Lawyer of the plaintiff Advocate Mamtaj Uddin Munna confirmed the matter to the .
He said that Bangladesh Human Rights Commission also helped the plaintiff from legal aspects. According to the case statement, police detained mason Biswajit Sarker of Kacharipara area of Nalitabari upazila at about 7:00 pm on October 1 in 2017. He fell sick after the arrest. Later at about 10:00 pm, he was released from the police custody.
Biswajit was taken to the hospital by the relatives and the family members. He died at Nalitabari upazila hospital at about 1:00 am.The Family members had claimed that Biswajit died due to police torture.
